You could be throwing away more than you think.

No one in the interior and construction industry wants to contribute to this:

Garbage pile in trash dump or landfill. Pollution concept.

So how do we avoid it?

The waste hierarchy provides a clear set of principles, to guide us in assessing the status of our materials.

When it comes to making a difference, sometimes business as usual reigns. It is hard to get buy in from the necessary people to make decision that make a difference, isn’t it?

Small changes in your sphere of influence is a way to start

If you are a business owner or an architect or designer, you can demand and specify that brands do the right thing. Demand re-use as end of life specifications. Ask for evidence of the results. Furniture, flooring, ceiling and IT suppliers are upping their game and can meet your demands.

Let’s talk flooring

Have you heard of Interface?

Rejecting the notion of a linear, take-make-waste economy, at Interface we created flooring products from recycled materials. Across our portfolio, 58% of Interface’s raw material usage is now sourced from recycled or bio-based sources.

One end of the waste equation is understanding where the raw materials in the products you specify come from. The other end of the equation is our service to take back our customers’ carpets at the end of their use. We call it ReEntry.

When you’re ready to update your flooring, you may not need those carpet tiles anymore, but someone else could find them useful.

We make it easy for you to create further value from the used carpet tiles and stop them going to waste.

Across the UK we work with social enterprises and ReUse partners, who specialise in rehoming used carpets. They work mostly with charities, community groups and housing associations, making sure your flooring benefits those who really need it. They also employ and train people in their communities– so finding a second home for your used carpet can make a difference in more than one way.

Our reuse partners

What difference have we made so far?:

In 2016 and 2017 we prevented more than 2 million m2 of carpet going to landfill around the globe.

By partnering with Interface it’s easy to make a contribution and improve your sustainability performance.

ReEntry is our service, but your positive contribution.
